  1. Initially, I suspected these cognitive biases might be specific to Homo Sapiens—perhaps quirks of our particular evolutionary history rather than universal features of intelligence. However, while writing this article, I've become convinced that such biases are actually inevitable characteristics of any sufficiently complex information-processing system. The tendency to construct complete patterns from partial data may be as universal among intelligent beings as the mathematical truths I explored in my discussion of Inevitabilities—not accidents of our biology, but necessary features of how intelligence itself must operate.
